My "Murtough" List

If you have seen the Lethal Weapon movies, you will be familiar with Murtough (played by Danny Glover) and his partner Riggs (played by Mel Gibson). They are detectives who seem to get themselves into trouble while solving the world’s problems. Murtough's most famous line in all the movies is, "We're too old for this *stuff*" (*actually a different 4 letter word is used, but I am keeping it PG here!) Reflecting on 2009 and going into 2010, I seem to find myself saying, "I'm too old for this stuff!" quite a bit!

A couple weeks ago I went to the doctor because my knee had been bothering me for a while. It hurt to bend it, straighten it, pretty much do anything with it. I thought that I had better get it checked out, because it could be a tumor! The doctor examined me, and said, "it is arthritis."

WHAT?!?! I am not old enough to have arthritis! (I mean I am only 31!)  I'd almost rather it be a tumor (Ok- not really!) It did not help that I also found 3 gray hairs that same week (You wont find them now... I pulled those suckers out and I am getting my hair dyed stat!)

So, I am creating my own Murtough list... the things that I am officially too old for!
1.) Staying up all night for a New Year's Party. I volunteer with the Jr. High group at my church, and they had an all-nighter for New Year's Eve. I told the youth pastor that I could help, but only until 1 AM... that is already WAY WAY past my bed time! He understood!
2.) Drinking caffeine after noon. I used to be able to down a can of dew and take a nap... not any more! I am totally hyped up and ready to scrub the floors with a tooth bursh! Not to mention that I keep my hubby up by talking a mile a minute.
3.) Sitting on my knees for longer than 10 seconds. See above!
4.) Going to a really loud concert. I find myself saying, "WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO LOUD. . .I HAVE A HEADACHE!"
5.) Playing any sort of physical game, and not paying for it the next day! I played dodge ball on a Wednesday night with the youth group, and the next day I had a hard time getting out of bed.

So, what is on your Murtough list?

sheesh. i can relate to every single one of those. another one for me: sleeping past 9am. Mostly it's because i don't have the opportunity, but on the rare occasion that i do, i'm up before 9. my 12 year old is starting to sleep PAST NOON - i remember doing that so much as a teenager, but now it seems so ridiculous to me that she sleeps that much of the day away. i have to keep reminding myself that i used to do the same thing, and though it doesn't make sense to me now, it did then.

I can relate to your entire list and I would also like to add doing step aerobics on Wii Fit without my hips hurting afterward.

Hilarious, Fawnda! I can totally relate! We called it a night at 10:00 on New Year's Eve. I told my husband I was pretty sure New Year's Eve is for people in their twenties. We caught a glimpse of the 750,000 people in Times Square on the news before bed and I didn't see a single wrinkle or gray hair!

I remember staying up til midnight on New Year's Eve as a kid. My mom would always fall asleep on the couch long before midnight and I'd have to shake her awake to wish her a happy new year. Now I can understand why!

Fawnda - I can't believe you have arthritis! There are so many things I am too old for - seriously, I feel like I am too old to be a mom of a preschooler. I had planned to have kids much younger. As that didn't go according to MY plans, I think it is a sign from God that I will live a long life :) Funny post - happy New Year!

I can relate to this post. I just meet with a childhood friend while on a trip back "home" last week. And we laughted about how old we had become.

Very funny! Yes, I feel like I have aged ten years with each of my children. Paul and I are always talking about how old we feel. We are always saying, "Man, I am getting old!"

Donna, I can relate about New Year's. I fell asleep on the couch and my hubby had to wake me up to say Happy New Year. Pathetic!

I tried to do a cartwheel last week and my shoulder still hurts. Things don't work the way they used to! It's a little sad really. And funny. To watch. Me fall on my face. :)

Fawnda, I can't believe you have arthritis. You are OLD! Just kidding!! No matter what, you will always be my little sister.
