My Mama Always Said...

When you are a Mommy, you experience so many things. You enter the Mommy Club. The feelings we share can be universal. I've thought about some things that we tell our children and ourselves.

Don't you love those things you catch yourself saying to your kids that sound so, well, Mommyish? Here's a few.

Regarding Food:

It's my job to give you good food; it's your job to eat it. (My personal favorite)
You get what you get and you don't throw a fit. (My kids' favorite)
One day when I'm gone, you will miss my cooking. (My Mom's favorite)
Good food or good night! (Karly's family's favorite)

Threats/Promises:

It's all about choices. (My husband's favorite)
Don't make me come over there!
I'll give you something to really cry about.
The early bird gets the worm. (This is the one I try to drill into my head daily)

Now these are some funny quotes that I googled.

“Cleaning up with children around is like shoveling during a blizzard” – Unknown
“I'm not going to vacuum 'til Sears makes one you can ride on.” - Roseanne Barr
“My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.” - Erma Bombeck
“I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford. Then I want to move in with them.” - Phyllis Diller
"My mother's menu consisted of two choices: Take it or leave it.” - Buddy Hackett

Now, some nice ones. These are the things that come to mind when the kids are sleeping like little angels. The house is quiet. You prepare for the next day.

“There is no way to be a perfect mother, and a million ways to be a good one” - Jill Churchill
“A mother's heart is the child's classroom.” - Henry Ward Beecher
“You don't really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry-go-round will wave at his parents every time around - and why his parents will always wave back.” - William D. Tammeus
“She never quite leaves her children at home, even when she doesn't take them along.”- Margaret Culkin Banning
“A mother understands what a child does not say.” - Jewish Proverb

Have any sayings come to mind that maybe you say to your kids? Maybe they've been passed down by your family. Feel free to share them with us too!

Happy Wednesday! By the way, don't forget it is tax day!

Hi Maria,

Cute quotes. I really like the funny ones. We have noticed lately that Alex has started quoting us. His personal favorite is "You're driving me crazy." If he understood what this meant, he would know it was a short trip :)

This is really cute post! I enjoyed all the quotes!

One I heard from a Bill Cosby stand up is:
(spoken to a child)"You roll your eyes at me and I will roll your head down the hall!"

I can totally see myself saying that some day!

Loved the quotes!

One quote I said I would never say, but I do..."Because I said so!" Sometimes that all I can think to say.

Also the quote, "I brought you into this world, I can take you out." I don't think I would ever use this quote, but sometimes I feel like that! :)

Love all of them! Lately I find myself understand all the little old ladies in the grocery store who say "enjoy it now because it passes so quickly". I have a 6 yr old in kindergarten a 4 year old who is ready to start school, and my "baby" is one. When did that happen?
